Radiographs

In 1979 a family tragedy led Meneghetti to examine thousands of radiographs: the first radiographic paintings were born. From 1988 the radiograph became the subject: emulsified canvases with enlarged anatomies, painted with pigments diluted in alcohol and fixed with a varnish that recreates the light of the radiologist’s viewer. From the human body he moved on to animals, flowers, fruit and objects, up to the masterpieces of the Old Masters. For Gillo Dorfles he was «tra i primi e forse il primo in assoluto a comprendere l’interesse estetico oltre che scientifico di questo mezzo».

The first radiographs

1979–1981

From 1979 the radiographic plate becomes a painting surface: emulsified canvases with enlarged anatomical parts and, from 1988, radiographs freed from the symbols of phagocytosis and fixed with a varnish that reflects light.
